Founded in 1673, the village of San José de Gracia is located in the northwest region of the state, 57 kilometers from the capital city at an altitude of 2,050 meters above sea level. Its predominant climate is cold, especially in the area of the sierra. Its territory crosses the Blanco and Prieto rivers, and the streams of Coyotes, Turtles, and Gutierrez. There are the Jocoqui dams, Fiftieth Anniversary, and Plutarco Elias Calles. The latter protects the Cristo Roto Island, an important monument more than 25 meters high, built in honor of the former Pueblo Viejo. Around the dam you can water ski, rent a jet ski or just enjoy a boat ride and learn about their fascinating canyons.
Just 10 miles north is Boca Tunnel, with a spectacular system of canyons where you can go mountain biking, hiking, rappelling, rock climbing, swimming, fishing, explore the flora and fauna, and take tours to learn more about the Potrerillos Dam Tunnel which has a vertical drop of 30 meters. At this point you should be aware of the suspension bridges and the two zip lines of the place, a fun attraction for adventure tourism.
