The building of neoclassical style, built in 1903, was designed by self-taught architect Refugio Reyes Rivas, as the seat of the Catholic school.   In 1915 having been expanded and remodeled, it served as a high school for girls and soon after as State Normal School. It opened to the public as the Museum of Aguascalientes in October 1975 to mark the fourth centenary of the official founding of the City of Aguascalientes. The interior consists of two courtyards, in the first there are rectangular base columns and arches with carved keys. The second, the work of Jose Refugio Reyes Rivas, has beautiful gardens and fountains of quarry stone at the center.  It has five permanent galleries in which are exhibited the works of Saturnino Herran, the most prolific Mexican painter along with Gabriel Fernandez Ledesma, Juan de Mata Pacheco, Jesús F. Contreras and Francisco Diaz de Leon, among others, and two rooms that offer temporary exhibitions of contemporary national art. The facilities also hold conferences, concerts, book presentations, courses, workshops and graduations. There are guided tours and a bookstore. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. Admission: $ 10 pesos.
