Shamans at the Healing Music Festival-Xicome, lighting of the Sacred Fire, workshops in yoga and meditation, Winter Solstice Ceremony, Concert of the Last Sun with the Symphony Orchestra and the Grand Ballet of the State Government, are a few of the events to take place on the boardwalk in the City of San Francisco of Campeche next month to celebrate the start of a new Baktun.
Mayan World Festival in the Historic Center of Campeche
Since November 1 and going until December 31, 2012 the city of Campeche is celebrating the Mayans with the fifteenth annual traditional Mayan World Festival, a great event which aims to rescue the cultural traditions of Campeche and on this occasion, to show the public the importance of Mayan culture in Mexico since this is the last year of the Mayan Calendar and the beginning of a new baktun.
Dedicated to the Mayans, the 2012 festival program offers concerts of classical music and contemporary folk, theater, dance, a rescue of traditions and its renowned Christmas Concert with the presence of prominent figures in opera and national orchestras.
Winter Solstice Ceremony – Evening till dawn
At the end of the events on December 21 at the Campeche boardwalk, you can participate in the Winter Solstice Ceremony going from evening to dawn at the archeological site of Dzibilnocac.

A not to be missed date in which unpublished pieces inspired by the Mayan people will be interpreted and excerpts will be read from the Popol Vuh (Popol Vuh or), the sacred book of the Mayan which tells the origin of the world and brings to light why the Mayans saw the passing of time in a cyclical and not linear form as we do today.
